About Toontown
What the Heck is Toontown?
So glad you asked! Toontown Online was an MMORPG created by Disney (yes, the same company that makes movies and owns Disneyland/World, Pixar, LucasFilm, Marvel and most recently, Fox) that opened all the way back in June 2003 and closed on September 19th, 2013. The very basic premise of the game was this: strange, evil robot menaces called Cogs invade the always-fun Toontown and threaten to take it over completely and end all fun for Toons (the inhabitants of this world- basically short for cartoons) everywhere. You as the player took on the role of a Toon and helped fight back against the Cogs, as well as live Life as a Toon in general.
This game trailer should help show this premise better:
So, Toontown is Closed Now?
Technically, yes, the main game created by Disney was closed down on September 19th, 2013. However, the Toontown franchise isn't dead quite yet! There's an entire Reddit subreddit dedicated to the game which is still pretty active to this day, and a few folks volunteered back in 2013 to bring back Toontown the game in the form of Toontown Rewritten and then a few years later, came Corporate Clash as well.
Plus, one of the creators of Toontown, Jesse Schell from Schell Games, is currently in talks with Disney about potentially bringing it back, officially, in some form.

Toontown Rewritten?
Yep! Toontown Rewritten is a remake of the game by fans of the game. Yes, you read that right. The entire game was rebuilt by a group of major Toontown fans who didn't want to see the game end so prematurely. They felt Toontown Online still had a lot of untapped potential and could easily last a few more years. So far, they've proven that right, as Toontown Rewritten now enters its fifth year since it launched. And to this day it's still going pretty strong, with it's own subreddit and its own Discord server that are both still pretty active.
Rewriting the Story
Toontown Rewritten didn't just bring back the game in the same exact way that the original Toontown Online was. For one thing, a lot of the bugs, issues and gripes people had with the original game were taken care of and fixed. A couple of new things have been added over the years, too, which never existed in Toontown Online. But the biggest change thus far has been in something Disney's version of the game lacked over the years: the story of the game. The original Toontown's story didn't go far beyond "cogs have invaded, stop them!" There was hardly an introduction to them, except for an obscure introduction video that only appeared in its very early days; the cogs were just there.
However, Toontown Rewritten changed this. We had a proper beginning to the whole "cogs are evil, we have to stop them" arc that Disney's Toontown lacked. Not only that, but thanks to that we also saw how and why Toontown got its mayor, by actually hosting an election. You can see this expanded story in the following video.
It didn't stop there, however. An overarching, multi-year mystery started to form in Toontown Rewritten's early days; as early as November 26th, 2013, before the Election above even happened, a mysterious blog post appeared on the website. This was the first of many ARGs that the Toontown Rewritten staff started for the players of the game.
Ever since that blog post, very strange things started to happen on the 26th of most months, and it went like that for a couple of years. Mysterious blog posts eventually revealed lots of goodies and secrets, getting us closer to uncovering the overarching mystery. It is this expanded lore that inspired me to write Toontown-based stories of my own, using the canon of Toontown Rewritten and Toontown Online. More info in here.
What's This About a "Corporate Clash" ?
Excellent question! Toontown: Corporate Clash is yet another remake of the original Toontown Online. Only this time, unlike Rewritten, it has a completely new spin to the game, with brand new, exclusive content, new Cogs, new Gags (and a new gag track!), a vastly revamped gag and battle system, and yes, a whole new story attached to it as well. Almost everything is changed from the original, really putting remake in Toontown Remake, much more so than Toontown Rewritten. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then check out Corporate Clash at the link down below!
